Balanced Living: Ten Rules for Being Human

balancedliving:

By Cherie Carter-Scott

  1. You will receive a body. You may like it or hate it, but it’s yours to keep for the entire period.
  2. You will learn lessons. You are enrolled in a full-time informal school called, “life.”
  3. There are no mistakes, only lessons. Growth is a process of trial, error, and…

You must be the person you have never had the courage to be. Gradually, you will discover that you are that person, but until you can see this clearly, you must pretend and invent.

31 Simple Ways To Add Happy To Your Day | Real Zest

zenandsimple:

I’ve been thinking a lot lately that I’ve just been existing without really trying to enjoy life. Not that things are bad; in fact, everything is good. But I want it to be great. It’s been a while since I’ve been heart-racing, edge-of-my-seat, cant-sleep-at-night excited about something.

I know it’s my own fault; I believe that you have to go out and find the things/people/activities that are going to make you excited and happy. So that’s what I’ve been doing: looking for little things that I can add to my day to shake things up.

I love lists like these. They usually contain some tips that are cheesy, some that sound cheesy but actually feel really good to do and some small but practical ideas that we just forget about when we’re busy.

Anyway, if you look over the list, I hope you find a couple that will get today (or any other day) going right for you.

You have to decide what your highest priorities are and have the courage - pleasantly, smilingly, nonapologetically - to say ‘no’ to other things. And the way to do that is by having a bigger ‘yes’ burning inside. The enemy of the ‘best’ is often the ‘good.’

Before you speak, listen. Before you write, think. Before you spend, earn. Before you invest, investigate. Before you criticize, wait. Before you pray, forgive. Before you quit, try. Before you retire, save. Before you die, give.

My One Year Blogiversary – What I’ve Learned [James Altucher]

zenandsimple:

I just started reading this blog in the last few weeks, and honestly, I’m not still even really sure who exactly James Altucher is. But I love his writing and am looking forward to looking back at some of his older posts, as well as enjoying what comes in the future. Check him out if you have a chance.

From Zen Habits: How I Changed My Life, in Four Lines

zenandsimple:

I love how Leo Babauta always breaks things down so simply. So, yea, spoiler alert: I’m getting straight to the point:

1. Start very small.
2. Do only one change at a time.
3. Be present and enjoy the activity (don’t focus on results).
4. Be grateful for every step you take.

But you really should read the rest of the post here.
